Places to see in Annapolis
The State House
Our nation´s first capital, the United States government operated from this spot for nearly a year. The house has been in use as a legislative body since 1772. Besides its obvious historical value, architectural enthusiasts should also note that it is the home of the largest rotunda built without the use of nails in the world. Additionally, the State House is used as the illustration for Maryland state quarters.
Annapolis Trails
The Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium Trail is a nice walking trail around the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. All total the trail is a mile and a quarter long. The stadium was built in 1959 on the campus of the U.S. Naval Academy. The stadium is primarily used for football, but has also hosted Lacrosse and soccer games. The stadium seats 34,000, so if you´re looking for a peaceful run, it´s not recommend you go on a game day.
The Poplar Ave trail actually connects Taylor Ave to the Annapolis Sports Complex and Germantown Elementary School. This trail also passes the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and the Public Library.
The Spa Creek Trail connected West Street and Truxtun Park. All and all the trail is about one and a half miles long. Enjoy the tranquil beauty of Spa Creek as you bike or walk along this trail.
Truxtun Park itself has several walking and biking trails, along with many other amenities. The park features a swim center and a boat ramp for those of you who like to spend a day on the water.
The longest trail system available is the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail Park. This trail runs from Annapolis to Glen Burnie. You can really enjoy the natural beauty of Maryland along these greenbelts. The trails are used for walkers, joggers, bikers, skateboarders and rollerbladers alike. At 13.3 miles long and spread across 112 acres, about 1/3 of the county´s residents live within easy walking distance or directly on the trail.
